Shields Centre

Our surgery is situated in Shields Centre. We share the Health Centre with one other General Practice, as well as the NHS Community Primary Care Services and services by Glasgow City council including Social Work. The centre has its own dedicated car park, with disabled parking spaces on the left as you enter from McCulloch Street. There is also some on street parking to the front of the building. There are bike racks under cover.

The new £2.7 million Shields Centre opened its doors in January 2015. The building will form part of a new overall community provision, along with the community centre and the new Gaelic school. The unified service delivery approach will make life easier for the local community by improving access to better services all in one location. It has filled an under used gap site and the exceptional design had added to the fabric of the surrounding area.

The building scale takes its cue from the nearby tenements, and likewise the brick selection is contemporary and reflective of the sandstone warmth of the residential tenements; contributing to the local fabric re-generation. The building is centered round a bright, airy, double-height waiting and reception area with short wings containing consulting rooms leading off the main public space.

A small community garden is included within grounds which carefully balances an overall design framework with space for future development by local groups. The garden, run and managed by Urban Roots, a Glasgow-based, community-led organisation, has been designed to allow out-of-hours access and could be used as a teaching resource for local groups and schools

By having a centre in the community where people can find such a wide variety of health and social care services all under one roof, the Shields Centre is at the forefront of community health.
